About Castellazzo Bormida

Castellazzo Bormida

Castellazzo Bormida is a small comune in the Province of Alessandria, Piedmont, roughly 8 kilometres south-east of Alessandria city centre. The town sits on the flat Po plain where the Bormida river bends west before joining the Tanaro, giving the surrounding countryside a quiet agricultural character defined by vineyards, maize fields, and poplar rows. The historic centre retains a compact grid of porticoed streets and a late-Baroque parish church, San Giovanni Battista, which anchors the main square.

Most visitors arrive for the Monferrato wine country that begins at the town's edge. Barbera d'Asti and Grignolino vineyards lie within a short drive, and the UNESCO-listed Piedmontese wine landscapes are accessible without crossing into heavy tourist traffic. The town also attracts travellers using Alessandria as a base for day trips to Genoa (about 80 km south via the A26 motorway) or Asti (roughly 25 km west).

Alessandria Mambrini Airport handles limited general aviation; the nearest commercial airport is Genoa Cristoforo Colombo, approximately 90 km away. Alessandria railway station, reachable in under 15 minutes by car, connects to Turin in about one hour and Milan in roughly 90 minutes by regional train.
