How HotelScout works
Every hotel on HotelScout earns its page. We combine official property data — address, room count, amenities, and star rating — with handpicked photos and verified guest scores from completed stays. A listing only goes live once it has a written description, a geocoded location, and at least three photos, so placeholder pages never reach you. Read our full methodology.
We earn a commission when you book through our links. That commission never affects where a hotel ranks or whether it appears — sorting follows guest rating and data completeness, applied the same way to every property. No paid placements, no sponsored ranks, no invented reviews. See our editorial standards.
Our catalogue spans 15,000+ hotels across 183 countries and grows as new destinations clear the same quality bar. Each page shows when it was last updated, and our editorial team reviews flagged listings. About HotelScout · Contact us.
Frequently asked questions
How does HotelScout choose which hotels to list?
Every listing passes a quality gate before it goes live: a written description, a verified address with map coordinates, a star rating, and at least three real photos. Hotels missing any of these stay unpublished. Within a destination, properties are ordered by guest rating and how complete their data is.
Is HotelScout free to use?
Yes. Browsing every hotel, city, and collection page is free, with no account or signup required. When you follow a booking link you pay the hotel or booking partner the same rate you would directly — HotelScout never adds a fee or markup of its own.
Does HotelScout take bookings directly?
No. HotelScout is a directory, not a booking engine. Each hotel page links you to the property or an established booking partner to complete your reservation, so your payment and confirmation are handled by them — not by us.
Where do the photos and guest ratings come from?
Photos are handpicked from official property sources and served from our own image CDN. Guest ratings are aggregated from verified stays and shown as a single score out of 10. We do not write, edit, or invent reviews, and ratings never change a hotel's placement.
How often are hotel pages updated?
Listings refresh on a recurring schedule as new property data and photos arrive, and the catalogue grows weekly as new destinations clear the same quality bar. Every hotel and city page shows a visible last-updated date so you can judge how current the information is.
How does HotelScout make money?
HotelScout earns a commission when you book through a partner link, at no extra cost to you. That commission never affects which hotels appear or how they rank — there are no paid placements or sponsored positions. Our editorial policy spells out the full disclosure.
