About Susukino

Susukino is Sapporo's primary entertainment and nightlife district, located directly south of the city's main JR station. It covers roughly 40 city blocks—the area is a dense grid of neon-lit streets packed with thousands of restaurants, bars, karaoke parlors, and clubs. Its name is derived from the Ainu word 'Susu-kene-i,' meaning 'a place with many reeds.'

Development began in the late 19th century, but its modern character solidified post-war. The district is famed for the annual Sapporo Snow Festival, where massive ice sculptures line Odori Park's southern end. Susukino is also a major hub for Sapporo's renowned ramen culture, with Ramen Yokocho and Ganso Ramen Yokocho alleys featuring dozens of specialty shops.
