About Nagamachi
Nagamachi was the samurai district of Kanazawa during the Edo period, from 1603 to 1868. Well-preserved earthen walls, stone-paved lanes, and water canals define its historic streetscape. The area is home to several restored samurai residences like the Nomura-ke and Shinise Kinenkan Museum, where visitors can view traditional architecture and artifacts.
Located at the foot of Kanazawa Castle, the district is a 10-minute walk from Kenrokuen Garden and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art. Key sites include the Ashigaru Shiryokan Museum, dedicated to foot soldiers, and the Nagamachi Yuzen Kan, a center for the local silk dyeing technique. The Oyama Shrine, with its distinctive stained-glass window, stands at the district's entrance.
