About Nagoya
Nagoya
Nagoya sits at the heart of Japan's Chubu region, roughly halfway between Tokyo and Osaka on the Tokaido Shinkansen corridor — about 100 km east of Kyoto and reachable from Tokyo Station in under two hours. The city of 2.3 million anchors Aichi Prefecture and serves as headquarters for Toyota Motor Corporation, whose global operations define much of the local economy. Nagoya Castle, originally completed in 1612 and famous for its golden shachihoko (tiger-fish roof ornaments), anchors the city's historic core. The Atsuta Shrine, holding one of Japan's three imperial treasures, draws over 6 million visitors each year.
Travelers come for a specific mix: automotive and industrial tourism at the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, ceramics shopping in the nearby Seto and Tokoname districts, and the city's distinct food culture — hitsumabushi (grilled eel over rice), miso katsu, and kishimen flat noodles all originate here. Business travelers arrive for trade fairs at the Nagoya Congress Center and supplier meetings tied to the regional manufacturing base.
Nagoya Station is one of Japan's largest rail hubs, connecting JR lines, the Meitetsu and Kintetsu private railways, and the city subway network. Chubu Centrair International Airport sits approximately 35 km south of the city center, accessible by Meitetsu express in about 28 minutes.
