Chuzenji Kanaya Hotel

Folded into the forested shoreline of Lake Chuzenji at 1,269 metres elevation, Chuzenji Kanaya Hotel draws on the Kanaya family's century-long Nikko hospitality tradition — the original Kanaya Hotel below opened in 1873, and the lakeside branch carries the same Anglo-Japanese aesthetic of exposed timber and lacquer detail.

Hot spring baths fed by Okumikko geothermal water anchor the spa floor, with sauna and hot tub alongside. Balcony rooms face the lake directly; on clear mornings Mount Nantai's cone reflects on the water before tour boats arrive. The restaurant sources Tochigi wagyu and freshwater fish from the surrounding plateau.

The hotel runs a shuttle linking guests to Toshogu Shrine, roughly 40 minutes downhill via the 48-bend Irohazaka road. Check-in opens at 15:00; late departures must clear by 11:00.
