Alakol Guesthouse

Three guesthouses in one converted Soviet-era family home on Stahanova Street, Alakol sits a short walk from Karakol's wooden Orthodox cathedral and the Sunday animal market that draws herders from across the Tian Shan valleys.

Rooms are simply furnished with shared bathrooms; the communal kitchen is open for guest use and owners prepare a local breakfast on request. The yard functions as an informal meeting point where trekkers compare Ala-Kul lake routes.

Karakol is the base for most Tian Shan trekking, sitting 380km east of Bishkek at the foot of the Terskey Ala-Too range. The trailhead for the popular Ala-Kul pass begins roughly 12km from town by shared taxi.
