About Mouraria

Mouraria is a historic quarter at the heart of Lisbon, directly northeast of the central Praça do Comércio. It is one of the city's oldest districts, known for its steep, narrow streets and traditional architecture—a labyrinth of staircases and alleys that survived the 1755 earthquake.

The area is the birthplace of Fado music, with the statue of Severa—the genre's first celebrated singer—standing on Rua do Capelão. Mouraria hosts the popular Feira da Ladra flea market every Tuesday and Saturday. Its central location provides direct access to the São Jorge Castle and the Santa Justa Lift.
