About Moscow
Moscow, Idaho: College Town on the Palouse
Moscow sits in the rolling Palouse hills of northern Idaho, roughly 8 miles east of the Washington state border and 85 miles south of Spokane. Home to the University of Idaho (founded 1889), the city's calendar revolves around Vandal athletics, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival held each February, and a Saturday farmers market that has run continuously since 1976 — one of the oldest in the Pacific Northwest.
Where to Stay
Most hotels cluster along US-95 and near the university's eastern edge on 6th Street. Visitors attending UI events or the Palouse Empire Fair in September book early, as the ~30 properties fill quickly during home football weekends. The neighboring city of Pullman, WA (home of Washington State University) is only 8 miles west and shares the regional Pullman–Moscow Regional Airport.
Practical Tips
- Getting there: Pullman–Moscow Regional Airport (PUW) offers daily connections to Seattle-Tacoma (SEA), roughly 50 minutes' flight time.
- Best season: Late May through September brings dry weather; expect snow November–March.
- Campus parking: Purchase a day permit at the UI Visitor Center before driving on campus during weekdays.
