San Remo Hotel

Set in North Beach at the corner of Mason and Chestnut, the San Remo occupies a three-story Italianate building that survived the 1906 earthquake and fire — one of the older continuously operating hotels in San Francisco. The neighborhood puts Washington Square Park one block south and the Broadway jazz corridor two blocks east.

Rooms share bathrooms in the corridor tradition of the building's boarding-house origins, keeping rates well below the city average. A bar and restaurant operate on the ground floor, and the 24-hour front desk handles late arrivals without prior arrangement.

Fisherman's Wharf is a ten-minute walk north; the Powell Street cable car turnaround sits roughly fifteen minutes south on foot.
