Hostal de Sal Noritha

Lined with blocks of salt harvested directly from the Salar de Uyuni, Hostal de Sal Noritha constructs its walls, floors, and furnishings from the same 10,582-square-kilometre flat that draws visitors to this corner of Bolivia's altiplano. The building material is also the landscape.

Uyuni town sits at 3,670 metres, and the hostal serves as a practical base for pre-dawn departures to the salt flat — guides typically leave by 05:30 to catch the mirror-effect light before wind breaks the surface water. The train cemetery, a rusting field of 19th-century locomotives, lies 3km east and is walkable.

Accommodation is simple and priced accordingly; the rating reflects warmth of service rather than facility depth. Altitude acclimatisation is advisable before arrival.
