About Donji Proložac

Donji Proložac

Donji Proložac is a small village in Split-Dalmatia County, set in the Imotska krajina plateau roughly 30 kilometres inland from the Adriatic coast. The surrounding landscape is classic Dalmatian karst — limestone ridges, dry-stone walls, and terraced fields planted with grapes and figs. The village sits close to Imotski, a market town known for two dramatic sinkholes: the Blue Lake (Modro jezero) and the Red Lake (Crveno jezero), whose cliff walls drop over 500 metres. Those natural landmarks draw geologists, climbers, and day-trippers from Split year-round.

Visitors to Donji Proložac are mostly domestic travellers, cycling groups following the Imotska krajina routes, and travellers seeking affordable rural accommodation outside the crowded Dalmatian coast. The area produces Kujundžuša white wine, a local grape variety grown almost exclusively on this plateau. Agritourism hosts often serve it alongside peka-cooked lamb or veal.

The nearest international airport is Split (SPU), approximately 60 kilometres northwest via the D1 state road. Local buses connect Imotski to Split several times daily; Donji Proložac itself is best reached by car.
