About Plitvica Selo
Plitvica Selo
Plitvica Selo is a small village in Lika, Croatia, sitting less than 2 km from the entrance to Plitvice Lakes National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site listed in 1979. The village serves as a quiet base for visitors arriving to walk the park's 18 km of wooden footbridges above 16 terraced lakes and dozens of waterfalls, including Veliki Slap, the tallest waterfall in Croatia at 78 metres. Most accommodation here consists of family-run guesthouses and small hotels, many within a short walk of Entrance 1 or Entrance 2 to the national park.
Visitors come almost entirely for the national park, which draws over 1.5 million people annually. The crowds peak between June and August; shoulder seasons in April–May and September–October offer cooler temperatures and shorter queues at the ticket gates. The surrounding Lika region is rural and forested, with the town of Gospić located roughly 30 km to the south-east as the nearest urban centre.
The village has no train station; most guests arrive by car via the D1 state road or by bus from Zagreb, which runs approximately 2 hours to the north. Entry to Plitvice Lakes National Park is ticketed and priced by season, with prices set annually by the park authority.
