About Nadi
Nadi: Fiji's Western Gateway
Nadi (pronounced "Nandi") sits on the western coast of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island, roughly 9 km from Nadi International Airport — the country's main entry point for international flights. The city is the commercial and tourism hub of the Coral Coast region, flanked by sugarcane fields to the east and the Mamanuca Islands chain to the west. The Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, a Dravidian Hindu temple completed in 1994, stands at the town's southern edge and is one of the Southern Hemisphere's largest Hindu temples.
Where to Stay
Most hotels cluster along Wailoaloa Beach and the Martintar strip, a 10-minute drive from the airport. Budget guesthouses sit alongside mid-range resorts, making Nadi a practical overnight stop before island-hopping. The Port Denarau Marina area, 8 km southwest, anchors upscale resorts and serves as the departure point for ferries to the Mamanucas and Yasawa Islands.
Practical Tips
- Getting around: Taxis and minibuses run frequently between the airport, town, and Denarau; negotiate taxi fares before boarding.
- Currency: The Fijian dollar (FJD) is standard; ATMs are available in Martintar and at the airport.
- Weather: The dry season runs May–October; the wet season (November–April) brings heavier rainfall and occasional cyclone risk.
- Ferry schedules: Book Yasawa Flyer or South Sea Cruises tickets at least one day ahead during peak season (July–August).
