Arctic Winter City Suite

Above the main pedestrian artery of central Rovaniemi, Arctic Winter City Suite occupies a self-contained apartment on Rovakatu, the spine road rebuilt after the 1944 wartime fires that levelled the entire town.

The suite runs as a full apartment: private kitchen, washing machine, and a balcony facing the street grid Alvar Aalto replanned in the shape of a reindeer's head. That layout makes it practical for stays of a week or more, unlike standard hotel rooms in the Santa Claus Village cluster 8km north on the Arctic Circle.

Rovaniemi's Arktikum science museum is a fifteen-minute walk along the Ounasjoki riverbank. Northern lights visibility peaks from late August through March; the apartment's balcony faces north, away from the main street lighting.
