About Le Controis-en-Sologne
Le Controis-en-Sologne
Le Controis-en-Sologne is a rural commune in the Loir-et-Cher department, formed in 2016 by the merger of several historic villages including Contres, Fresnes, and Cormeray. It sits in the heart of the Sologne — a vast plateau of forests, étangs (ponds), and farmland stretching between the Loire and Cher rivers in north-central France.
The area draws visitors primarily for its proximity to the Loire Valley châteaux. Cheverny, one of the best-preserved Renaissance châteaux in France and the inspiration for Moulinsart in Hergé's Tintin series, lies just a few kilometers away. Chambord is roughly 30 km to the north. The surrounding countryside attracts hunters, cyclists, and nature walkers — the Sologne is one of France's premier game-hunting territories, and marked cycling routes cross the commune's quiet back roads. Wine tourism also plays a role: the Cheverny AOC and Cour-Cheverny AOC appellations cover vineyards on the commune's doorstep.
Contres, the main town within the merged commune, serves as a local market hub with weekly markets and essential services. The nearest major transport link is Blois, approximately 20 km north, with direct TGV and intercity rail connections to Paris-Austerlitz in roughly 1 hour 30 minutes.
