About Maisons
Maisons-Laffitte
Maisons-Laffitte sits on the Seine, 20 km northwest of central Paris in the Yvelines département. The town is defined by the Château de Maisons-Laffitte, a masterpiece of French classical architecture completed in 1651 by François Mansart — one of the most intact 17th-century royal residences in the Île-de-France region. The château gives the town its name recognition and draws architecture historians, school groups, and day-trippers from the capital year-round.
Beyond the château, the town is France's foremost thoroughbred racing hub. The Hippodrome de Maisons-Laffitte hosts flat racing from spring through autumn, and roughly 3,000 racehorses are stabled in the surrounding Parc de Maisons-Laffitte — a 750-hectare forest threaded with bridle paths. Visitors arrive for race days, equestrian tourism, and long walks under the chestnut allées that separate the villas of the 19th-century residential quarter.
Transport is straightforward: RER A line connects Maisons-Laffitte station to Châtelet–Les Halles in central Paris in approximately 30 minutes. Most hotels cluster near the station and the park perimeter, giving guests easy access to both the racecourse and the château, which is open to the public and managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux.
