About Villerville

Villerville: Normandy Cliff Village on the Côte Fleurie

Villerville is a small seaside commune in the Calvados department of Normandy, perched on low chalk cliffs between Honfleur (5 km to the west) and Deauville (10 km to the east) along the Côte Fleurie. The village retains much of its 19th-century character — half-timbered villas built by Parisian artists and writers who arrived after the railway reached nearby Trouville in 1863. The beach below the cliffs is sandy and largely uncrowded compared to the resort towns flanking it.

Where to Stay

Accommodation in Villerville runs to small hotels and chambres d'hôtes rather than large chains. Staying here suits visitors who want Honfleur's old harbour and Deauville's racecourse within a short drive while avoiding peak-season crowds. The D513 coastal road connects all three towns. Caen is roughly 35 km south via the A13, giving access to the D-Day landing beaches.

Practical Tips

  • Getting there: Trains stop at Trouville-Deauville station (8 km east); local buses or taxis cover the remaining distance.
  • Best season: July and August bring the warmest weather; spring and September offer quieter streets and lower rates.
  • Pack layers: Atlantic winds make evenings cool even in summer.
