About Plaka

Plaka sits at the northeastern foot of the Acropolis in Athens. Known as the 'Neighborhood of the Gods', its narrow, labyrinthine streets are lined with neoclassical houses, small museums, and Byzantine churches. The area's continuous habitation dates back thousands of years—its foundations overlay parts of the ancient Agora. Visitors can walk through the Anafiotika quarter, built by 19th-century islanders, for Cycladic-style architecture. The district is pedestrianized and directly borders the Acropolis Hill, the Roman Agora, and the Tower of the Winds. Central Syntagma Square is a 15-minute walk north.
