About Akrotiri

Akrotiri is a village and archaeological site on the southern tip of Santorini. It's best known for the Minoan Bronze Age settlement—preserved by volcanic ash around 1600 BCE. The site, often called the 'Greek Pompeii,' features multi-story buildings, frescoes, and a sophisticated drainage system.

The modern village offers a quieter alternative to Fira and Oia. It sits near Red Beach and the historic Akrotiri Lighthouse, built in 1892. The area provides views of the caldera and is approximately 12 kilometers from the island's main port at Athinios.
