Vafeios is a hillside village in the northern interior of Lesbos, the Aegean island roughly 350 km northeast of Athens. The settlement sits among olive groves and pine forest at an elevation that keeps summers noticeably cooler than the coastal resorts below. Traditional stone architecture lines the central square, and the surrounding landscape feeds into the broader North Lesbos protected zone, where petrified-forest outcrops and wetland birdwatching sites attract nature-focused travellers.

Visitors to Vafeios tend to be walkers, cyclists, and travellers seeking quiet stays away from the busier port town of Mytilene, located about 40 km to the south. The village is a practical base for day trips to Molyvos (Mithymna), a medieval castle town on the northern coast roughly 10 km away, and to the Gulf of Kalloni, a prime birdwatching destination. Agrotourism properties and small guesthouses make up most of the accommodation, with stays typically running at lower rates than coastal Lesbos equivalents.
