Java Turtle Lodge Meru Betiri

The sole lodge within Meru Betiri National Park's southern buffer zone, Java Turtle Lodge sits at Rajegwesi Beach where leatherback and green turtles nest between June and September — rangers lead monitored night walks to the laying sites, a programme unavailable at any hotel outside the park boundary.

Accommodation is basic bamboo-and-timber bungalows without air conditioning, cooled instead by the Indian Ocean breeze through louvred panels. The lodge's kitchen runs on whatever the Rajegwesi fishing cooperative lands each morning; no menu exists, only what arrived at dawn.

Banyuwangi city is roughly 60km north, making this a destination stay rather than a base. Access requires a permit issued at the park gate in Sarongan village, six kilometres before the lodge.
