The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Venice

Converted from the 15th-century palazzo of Doge Andrea Gritti, the Gritti Palace occupies a prime stretch of the Grand Canal opposite the church of Santa Maria della Salute. Its terrace restaurant, Club del Doge, extends directly over the water — one of the few dining positions in Venice where gondola traffic passes at table level.

Rooms vary sharply in size and outlook; canal-facing suites draw the stronger light and boat noise, while courtyard rooms on Campo Santa Maria del Giglio stay quieter through the night. The property holds original Venetian terrazzo floors and restored Rubelli silk furnishings throughout.
