Perched in Kanazawa's Higashiyama geisha district, Sunmoon occupies a restored machiya townhouse on a lane where ochaya teahouses still operate after dark. Kenroku-en garden sits a ten-minute walk west, and the preserved Higashi Chaya streetscape begins at the front door — a rare base for travellers wanting to sleep inside the historic quarter rather than beside it.

Rooms follow traditional layouts with low furniture and shoji screens; the innkeepers provide a hand-drawn local map noting which tofu shops and sake breweries open early for walk-ins. Breakfast is Japanese-style, taken communally at a shared table.

Higashiyama sits east of the Asano River, roughly fifteen minutes on foot from Kanazawa Station's bus terminal. The neighbourhood quiets completely after 21:00, making it poorly suited to late-night arrivals but ideal for guests prioritising morning light through paper screens.
