Hotel Anteroom Kyoto

Built alongside the Toji temple district in Kyoto's Minami-ku, Hotel Anteroom occupies a converted student dormitory whose bare-concrete bones have been kept deliberately rough against gallery-white walls and art installations that rotate through the corridors.

Temporary art exhibitions run year-round in the common areas, making the property closer to a project space than a standard business hotel. Bicycle rental at the front desk puts Fushimi Inari, three kilometres south, within easy reach; Kyoto Station is a ten-minute walk north along Kujo-dori.

Rooms carry flat-screen TVs, refrigerators, and private bathrooms with bathtubs. The ground-floor bar stays open late, and a 24-hour front desk handles luggage storage and wake-up calls.
