Twelve rooms occupy a hillside guesthouse in Faravohitra, one of Antananarivo's oldest residential ridges, where colonial-era villas step down toward the city's lake basin below. The neighborhood sits roughly 1.5 km north of Analakely market and retains a quieter residential character than the central Haute-Ville.

Le Karthala takes its name from the active volcano shared between the Comoros archipelago and regional identity — a geographic nod unusual for a Tana address. The chambres d'hôtes format means individually managed rooms rather than a hotel-block layout, with shared guest areas typical of the style.

Faravohitra's ridge position offers unobstructed views across the Betsimitatatra plain at dusk. Taxis-be routes connecting to Analakely run along the lower boulevard, placing the city's main commercial strip within a short ride.
