Dar El Qadi

Twenty-nine steps deep in the Azbezt quarter, Dar El Qadi occupies a former qadi's residence off Derb Qadi, its cedar-carved doors and central courtyard fountain original to the house. Rooms open onto the tiled patio rather than a corridor.

Breakfast is taken on the roof terrace, msemen and amlou served facing the Koutoubia minaret over the rooftops. The riad suits couples and small groups wanting a quiet medina base away from Jemaa el-Fna's noise.

Bab Doukkala gate lies a seven-minute walk out, with taxis staged there since cars cannot reach the derb.
