Kasbah d'if

Perched on a rocky ridge 25km southwest of Marrakech along the Agafay Desert road, Kasbah d'If rises above a lunar plateau where the Atlas Mountains form the southern horizon. The position keeps city noise entirely absent while keeping the medina under an hour by car.

The kasbah format means thick pisé walls that hold cool air through midday heat — a practical advantage across Agafay summers rather than a decorative choice. Guests report the starfield here as among Morocco's clearest within day-trip distance of a major city, aided by the absence of nearby villages.

The Agafay plateau is often called a stone desert, distinct from the sand ergs further south, giving riders and hikers a harder, more dramatic terrain than Palmeraie excursions offer.
