Guacamayo Azul

Forty minutes upriver from Iquitos by motorised canoe, Guacamayo Azul sits in the riverside hamlet of Ninarumi — one of the few lodges in the Peruvian Amazon positioned outside the city's secondary-growth fringe, where primary canopy runs unbroken along the bank.

The name translates to Blue Macaw, a bird spotted along this stretch of the upper Amazon at dusk and dawn. Eighteen guests have rated the property at 9.4, a score uncommon for the region and attributed largely to the absence of road noise and the wildlife density that vehicle-accessible properties cannot match.

Iquitos, the world's largest city unreachable by road, remains the nearest supply hub; its Belén floating market is accessible by boat for guests extending their stay.
