Avià is a small Catalan municipality in the Berguedà comarca, set in the pre-Pyrenean foothills of northeastern Spain, roughly 100 km north of Barcelona. The village clusters around the Romanesque church of Sant Andreu, a 12th-century structure that anchors the historic centre and reflects the region's medieval heritage. The surrounding landscape — forested ridges, the Llobregat river valley, and views toward the Serra de Moixeró — draws hikers and cyclists from across Catalonia, particularly those following routes that connect to the Parc Natural del Cadí-Moixeró.

Visitors to Avià are typically nature-focused travellers, weekend escapees from Barcelona, and anyone using the area as a base for the nearby market town of Berga, just 3 km south. Berga hosts the famous Patum festival, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage celebration held every Corpus Christi since the 14th century, which brings crowds to the entire comarca.
