About Fraga

Fraga

Fraga sits on the west bank of the Cinca River in Huesca province, Aragon, roughly 20 km from the Catalan city of Lleida. The old town climbs a rocky promontory above the river, anchored by the church of San Pedro — a Romanesque-Gothic structure that has defined the skyline since the medieval period. The position on the AragonCatalonia border gave Fraga strategic importance for centuries and left it with an architectural character distinct from either region.

Visitors come primarily for the historic quarter, riverside walks along the Cinca, and the surrounding agricultural landscape of peach and fruit orchards that make this comarca one of Spain's notable stone-fruit producing zones. The annual Fiestas de San Pedro in late June draw regional crowds. Cyclists use Fraga as a base for routes through the Baix Cinca flatlands and into the pre-Pyrenean foothills to the north.

The city has a population of around 15,000 and sits on the A-2 motorway corridor linking Zaragoza (120 km west) with Barcelona (160 km east), making it a practical overnight stop on that route. Rail connections run through Lleida.
