About Taichung
Taichung: Central Taiwan's Cultural and Culinary Hub
Taichung sits in the geographic centre of Taiwan, roughly 160 km south of Taipei via the Taiwan High Speed Rail, which connects the two cities in under 40 minutes. Founded as a Japanese colonial administrative centre in 1895, the city retains tree-lined Meiji-era boulevards alongside a skyline of contemporary towers. The National Taichung Theater, designed by Toyo Ito and completed in 2016, has become the city's most-discussed architectural landmark. Calligraphy Greenway, a 1.1 km linear park threading through the Yizhong Street district, links independent bookshops, galleries, and tea houses.
Where to Stay in Taichung
Most hotels cluster around Xitun District, near the Taichung HSR Station, and in the older Central District close to the train station on the main TRA line. The Fengjia Night Market area in Xitun attracts budget and mid-range properties. The 7th Art District in South District suits travellers focused on galleries and café culture. Properties in Central District give walkable access to the 1917-era Taichung Railway Station and Miyahara, a heritage ophthalmic hospital converted into a dessert hall.
