2 soi 1, Nawatgate Road, Tambon Watgate, Muang
About 137 Pillars House
An 1889 teak trading house on the east bank of the Ping River, 137 Pillars House takes its name from the hand-carved pillars that frame the original Borneo Company manager's residence — still standing as the property's centrepiece suite.
Thirty rooms and suites occupy restored colonial buildings set around a garden pool. Each has hardwood floors, a private balcony, and a walk-in closet; butlers handle room breakfast and unpacking. The Palette restaurant sources from the Saturday Kad Luang market two blocks away, and cooking classes run in a separate kitchen pavilion.
Watgate, Chiang Mai's quieter riverside quarter, sits a ten-minute tuk-tuk from the Old City moat. The Nawarat Bridge and the antique dealers of Tha Phae Road are both within easy walking distance.
