About Oludeniz
Ölüdeniz: Blue Lagoon and Babadağ Paragliding Hub
Ölüdeniz sits on Turkey's Turquoise Coast, 15 km southwest of Fethiye in Muğla Province. The village is built around a protected Blue Lagoon (Ölüdeniz Tabiat Parkı), a shallow tidal inlet enclosed by a sand spit and framed by pine-covered ridges. The lagoon's calm, clear water makes it one of the most photographed shorelines in the eastern Mediterranean. Alongside the lagoon, Belcekız Beach stretches roughly 700 metres and serves as the main landing strip for tandem paragliders descending from Babadağ Mountain (1,969 m), which towers directly behind the resort.
Where to Stay and Getting Around
Hotels and pensions concentrate along the beachfront road and in the hillside streets above. Hisarönü, 4 km inland, offers a denser cluster of self-catering apartments and nightlife. Dolmuş minibuses connect Ölüdeniz to Fethiye bus station roughly every 20 minutes during summer (June–October), with the fare under 30 TL. Fethiye has the nearest long-distance otogar, linking to Antalya (3 hours) and Bodrum (3.5 hours).
Practical Tips
- Beach entry: The Blue Lagoon national park charges a small admission fee (around 50–80 TL per adult in 2025).
- Paragliding season: Flights operate April through November; book tandem slots at least a day ahead in July and August.
- Crowds: The lagoon is quieter before 09:00 and after 17:00; midday sees the highest boat-tour traffic.
- Currency: Lira is standard; card acceptance is common at hotels but carry cash for smaller beach cafés.
