About Datca

Datça: Aegean Peninsula Between Two Seas

Datça sits at the tip of the Datça Peninsula in Muğla Province, where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet. The peninsula stretches roughly 70 km west of Marmaris, narrowing to less than 1 km wide at points, isolating Datça from mass-tourism infrastructure. The town divides into two cores: Eski Datça (Old Datça), a stone-village neighborhood 3 km inland, and the modern harbour district facing Datça Bay. The ancient city of Knidos, a 4th-century BC Greek settlement with a circular harbour and a temple attributed to Praxiteles, lies at the far western tip, 38 km from town.

Where to Stay

Hotels concentrate along the harbour front and in Eski Datça, where boutique guesthouses occupy restored Ottoman stone houses. Smaller pansiyon-style properties line the road toward Palamutbükü cove, 17 km east. Most visitors arrive between May and October; outside that window, many hotels close.

Practical Tips

  • Getting there: Datça has no airport; the nearest is Dalaman, 160 km away. A ferry runs from Bodrum (2.5 hrs) seasonally.
  • Roads: The single D400 spur road from Marmaris takes about 1.5 hours by car.
  • Season: Pack layers for evenings, even in July — sea breezes drop temperatures after sunset.
  • Knidos: Allow a half-day and bring water; the archaeological site has no shade.
