About Stowe Mountain

Stowe Mountain: Vermont's Year-Round Alpine Hub

Stowe Mountain sits at the base of Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak at 4,393 feet, roughly 36 miles east of Burlington. The village of Stowe and the ski resort occupy the Mountain Road (Route 108) corridor, a 7-mile stretch lined with inns, restaurants, and specialty shops. Stowe Mountain Resort — operated by Vail Resorts since 2017 — offers 116 trails across two interconnected mountains, making it the largest ski area in the eastern United States by acreage.

Where to Stay in Stowe

Accommodations cluster in three zones: the Village center near the green, the Mountain Road corridor midway to the base lodge, and Spruce Peak, a ski-in/ski-out development completed in 2008 with hotel rooms, condos, and a performance arts center. The Trapp Family Lodge, founded by the von Trapp family of Sound of Music fame in 1950, operates on 2,500 acres above the village and remains one of the most recognizable independent properties in New England.
