Philharmoniker-Straße 4
About Hotel Sacher Wien
Built directly behind the Vienna State Opera on Philharmoniker-Straße, Hotel Sacher Wien has occupied the same corner since 1876, making it one of the few grand hotels where the original founding family name still governs operations.
The interior holds dark-red velvet, oil portraits, and brass fittings that predate the republic itself. The Café Sacher serves the original Sachertorte recipe — a detail the hotel famously litigated over for seven years against Demel confectionery, winning the right to call it the "Original" in 1963.
Philharmoniker-Straße is 80 metres from the Kunsthistorisches Museum tram stop and within four minutes' walk of Albertinaplatz. The opera house connection is functional: a private side entrance allows guests to reach their seats without crossing the open square.
