About Cox's Bazar
Cox's Bazar: 120 Kilometres of Unbroken Sea Beach
Cox's Bazar sits on the southeastern coast of Bangladesh, roughly 150 km south of Chittagong. The city anchors what is widely measured as the world's longest natural sandy sea beach — a continuous 120 km shoreline stretching from Laboni Beach in the town centre south to Teknaf. The beach slopes gently into the Bay of Bengal, making it accessible for wading and surfing, particularly between October and March when seas are calmer and skies clear.
Where to Stay and Getting Around
Most hotels concentrate along Hotel Zone Road and the Kolatoli beachfront area, within walking distance of the main beach access points. Budget guesthouses and mid-range hotels are plentiful near Sugandha Beach; larger resort-style properties line the northern stretches toward Inani Beach, 32 km from town. A shared auto-rickshaw (CNG) connects the main beach zone to Kolatoli for under 50 BDT. Day trips to Maheshkhali Island and the Himchari National Park waterfall depart from the town jetty.
Practical Tips
- Best months: October through March for dry weather and calm surf
- Getting there: Domestic flights from Dhaka take roughly 1 hour; the road journey is 10–12 hours by bus
- Currency: Bangladeshi Taka (BDT); ATMs available on Kolatoli Road
- Dress code: Conservative beachwear is advisable outside designated swimming areas
