Sarajevo: Four Faiths on the Miljacka River
Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, sits in a narrow valley carved by the Miljacka River, surrounded by the Dinaric Alps at roughly 500 metres elevation. On 28 June 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot on the Latin Bridge, making Sarajevo a turning point in modern history. The 1984 Winter Olympics left behind Trebević Mountain cable-car infrastructure and ski runs now used year-round.
