Dunhuang County Posthouse

Beside the Mingshan Village road that leads directly to Crescent Lake, Dunhuang County Posthouse occupies a courtyard compound in a rural quarter of the oasis town, roughly 2km from the Mingsha Sand Dunes entrance gate.

The posthouse format reflects the historic caravanserai tradition of the Hexi Corridor — a working guesthouse for travellers rather than a resort property. Crescent Lake itself, a freshwater spring lake cupped within shifting sand dunes, sits within walking distance of the front gate, making early-morning visits before tour groups arrive straightforwardly practical.

Dunhuang's Mogao Caves, with their Tang-dynasty painted grottos, lie roughly 25km southeast via shuttle. The old town night market on Shazhou Street is a 15-minute drive north.
