Plan your stay in Brides-les-Bains, France's leading thermal spa town and gateway to the Trois Vallées ski domain via the Olympe gondola to Méribel.
About Brides-les-Bains
Brides-les-Bains is a thermal spa town in the Tarentaise valley of Savoie, southeastern France, sitting at roughly 600 m altitude. The town built its reputation on sulfurous mineral springs, first developed commercially in the 19th century. Its thermal institute — one of the largest in France — specialises in weight management, rheumatology, and venous disorders, drawing patients on three-week medical cures each spring and summer. The season runs April through October, when the population swells considerably from its quiet winter baseline of around 600 permanent residents.
Beyond thermal treatments, Brides-les-Bains serves as a low-altitude gateway to the Trois Vallées ski domain — the largest linked ski area in the world. A gondola, the Olympe, connects the town directly to Méribel in under 20 minutes, giving skiers and snowboarders access to over 600 km of marked runs without paying Méribel resort prices for accommodation. The town hosted athletes and officials during the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, which brought infrastructure upgrades still visible today. Walkers use Brides-les-Bains as a summer base for trails into the Vanoise National Park, the first national park established in France, founded in 1963.
The town centre is compact and walkable — the main thermal establishment, casino, and most hotels sit within a few minutes of each other. Regular bus and shuttle services connect to Moûtiers train station, approximately 7 km away, which has direct TGV links to Paris.
