About Duingt
Duingt: Château, Narrows, and the Southern Shore of Lake Annecy
Duingt sits on a narrow peninsula on the western shore of Lac d'Annecy, roughly 12 km south of Annecy town in the Haute-Savoie department. The village is best known for Château de Duingt (also called Châteauvieux), a 15th-century castle built on a rocky islet that nearly seals the lake at its narrowest point — the passage known as Le Roselet. That pinch point, barely 80 metres wide, divides the Grand Lac to the north from the Petit Lac to the south and gives Duingt one of the most photographed positions on any Alpine lake in France.
Where to Stay and Getting Around
The commune anchors the quieter southern arc of the lake circuit. A handful of lakeside hotels and chambres d'hôtes line the Route d'Albertville, offering direct water access and views toward the Bauges massif. Cyclists follow the VéloBleu lake path through the village; the full 42 km perimeter loop connects Duingt to Annecy in under an hour by bike. Drivers reach Annecy via the D1508 in roughly 20 minutes.
