About La Rivière-Saint-Sauveur
La Rivière-Saint-Sauveur
La Rivière-Saint-Sauveur sits on the south bank of the Seine estuary in Calvados, Normandy — directly across the water from Honfleur, one of northern France's most painted harbour towns. The two communes share a geographic identity shaped by the estuary: wide tidal flats, oyster beds, and the Pont de Normandie, the cable-stayed bridge opened in 1995 that links the area to Le Havre in under four minutes by car.
Visitors base themselves here primarily to access Honfleur's 17th-century Vieux Bassin without paying Honfleur hotel rates. The town also sits within easy reach of the D-Day landing beaches — Arromanches is roughly 60 km west — and the apple orchards of the Pays d'Auge, source of Calvados brandy and Camembert. The surrounding countryside follows the Route des Fruits, a signposted circuit through cider-producing villages active from late September through October.
Train connections run via Lisieux, the nearest main-line station at around 35 km south-east, with services to Paris Saint-Lazare. Most travellers arrive by car via the A13 motorway, which meets the Pont de Normandie approach road at this bank of the estuary.
