Hotels in Honfleur

Honfleur sits on the southern bank of the Seine estuary in Normandy, roughly 15 km east of the Pont de Normandie bridge that links it to Le Havre. The town's defining feature is the Vieux-Bassin — a 17th-century inner harbour lined with narrow, slate-fronted houses rising five to seven storeys. Samuel de Champlain departed from Honfleur in 1603 on his first voyage to Canada, and the port's role in transatlantic trade shaped its architecture and wealth. The Église Sainte-Catherine, built largely by local shipwrights in the 15th century, is the largest wooden church in France and stands two blocks from the waterfront.

Artists have worked here since the 19th century — Eugène Boudin was born in Honfleur in 1824, and the town later drew Monet, Courbet, and members of the Barbizon school. The Musée Eugène Boudin on place Erik Satie holds a permanent collection of Normandy Impressionist work. Erik Satie himself was born here in 1866; his childhood home operates as a quirky interactive museum on boulevard Charles V. Visitors today are a mix of French weekenders from Paris (roughly 200 km southwest via the A13), international tourists on Normandy road trips, and cycling groups using the Seine à Vélo route.

Honfleur has no train station — the nearest rail connection is Lisieux, about 35 km south, with buses covering the final leg. The town centre is compact and walkable; most hotels cluster within 500 m of the Vieux-Bassin.
