About Les Achards
Les Achards
Les Achards is a rural commune in the Vendée department of western France, created in January 2016 by the merger of four villages: Beaufou, La Chapelle-Palluau, Le Poiré-sur-Vie, and Palluau. The town sits roughly 30 km east of the Atlantic coast and about 25 km northeast of La Roche-sur-Yon, the departmental capital. Its landscape is typical Vendée bocage — hedgerow-lined farmland, small rivers, and market villages that have supplied the region since the medieval period.
Visitors come mainly for cycling and walking routes through the bocage, regional produce markets, and proximity to the Vendée coast. The area draws French domestic tourists, particularly families seeking quiet countryside stays within an hour's drive of Les Sables-d'Olonne and the Puy du Fou historical theme park, located about 45 km to the east. Birdwatching around the wetland edges of the Vie river valley also attracts naturalists in spring.
Accommodation options are limited and largely rural in character — chambres d'hôtes, small logis hotels, and farm stays dominate. The nearest motorway access is via the A87, connecting Les Achards to Nantes (75 km north) and La Roche-sur-Yon.
