Corfu Town suits travellers who want to walk the 16th-century Venetian Old Town lanes, the Liston arcade, and the Palace of St. Michael and St. George without a car. Hotels range from boutique guesthouses inside the Old Walls to 4-star properties on the northern waterfront.

Glyfada, on the west coast 16 km from town, anchors the island's main resort strip. Long sandy beaches and a concentration of mid-range hotels make it the most popular family base. Paleokastritsa, 25 km northwest of Corfu Town, attracts couples and hikers drawn to sea caves and the 13th-century monastery above the bay.

Sidari in the north serves package travellers and younger crowds; ferries to the Diapontia Islands depart from nearby Agios Stefanos. Benitses, 12 km south of town along the east coast, offers calmer waters and lower nightly rates than the west-coast resorts.

Getting Around

CTEL blue buses connect Corfu Town to most resorts on fixed schedules. Renting a car or scooter unlocks smaller villages such as Pelekas and the hilltop village of Sinarades. A ferry crossing to Igoumenitsa on the mainland takes 90 minutes.
