The most convenient bases in Bandung are Dago for hill-side cafés and gallery access; Braga for colonial-era streetscapes and boutique stays; Riau–Trunojoyo for factory-outlet shopping; and Lembang (15 km north) for cooler volcano-fringe resorts. Most visitors stay two to three nights; Husein Sastranegara Airport is 5 km northwest of the city centre, roughly 15 minutes by taxi.

Where to Stay in Each Quarter

Dago sits on the northern ridge, close to the Dago Tea House and the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) campus founded in 1920. It suits travelers who want hill air and independent cafés. Braga Street, lined with Art Deco facades from the Dutch colonial period, is the address for design-conscious guests; hotels here put the Gedung Sate government building (1920) within a 10-minute walk. Riau–Trunojoyo — Bandung's outlet corridor — is practical for shoppers arriving by Argo Parahyangan train from Jakarta (roughly 3 hours). Lembang provides a full retreat atmosphere near Tangkuban Perahu crater, which last showed notable activity in 2019.

Getting Around

Ride-hailing apps (Gojek, Grab) are the default for point-to-point trips inside the city. The Trans Metro Bandung bus network covers major corridors but runs infrequently after 20:00. Renting a car with a driver is practical for day trips to the Ciwidey tea plantations (45 km south) or Lembang.
