Hotels in Canggu

The most convenient bases in Canggu are Echo Beach for surf and casual beach bars; Berawa for rooftop pools and a quieter mid-range scene; Batu Bolong for café culture and proximity to Canggu's rice-field walks; and Pererenan for a less-developed, residential feel. Most visitors stay five to seven nights. Ngurah Rai International Airport is roughly 30–40 minutes south by taxi via the coastal bypass road.

Where to Stay in Each Neighbourhood

Batu Bolong is the social hub — cafés, co-working spaces, and Batu Bolong Beach itself draw digital nomads and weekend surfers. Hotel density here is highest. Echo Beach, 1 km north, suits intermediate-to-advanced surfers who want to be within walking distance of the break. Berawa is more residential, with several mid-range and boutique properties lining the lanes back from the beach. Pererenan, abutting the Tukad Yeh Otan river boundary, has fewer tourists and lower nightly rates while still giving access to Canggu's surfing corridor.

Getting Around

Canggu has no public bus network. Ojek (motorcycle taxi) apps — Gojek and Grab — cover most journeys within 10–15 minutes. Scooter rental runs approximately IDR 70,000–100,000 per day. The main coastal road can slow to a crawl between 5 pm and 7 pm; side-lane routes through the rice fields cut travel time on the Canggu–Seminyak stretch.

Practical Tips

• Currency: ATMs in Batu Bolong dispense Indonesian Rupiah; carry cash for warungs and local markets.
• Surf conditions: Dry season (April–October) brings offshore winds and cleaner swells at Echo Beach and Old Man's.
• Evenings: Pack a light layer — sea breezes drop temperatures noticeably after sunset.
• Airport transfer: Book a fixed-price taxi or driver in advance; metered cabs are scarce in Canggu.
