ZEN MOON Hostel

Forty steps off Jl. Tirtodipuran, ZEN MOON Hostel occupies a converted Javanese home in Mantrijeron, one of Yogyakarta's batik-workshop neighborhoods south of the kraton. Dorm and private rooms open onto a shared teak-floored veranda; a communal kitchen replaces a formal restaurant.

Staff arrange batik-dyeing sessions with the street's own artisans rather than tourist-district studios. The kraton and Taman Sari water castle sit a fifteen-minute walk north, while Prawirotaman's cafes and travel agents cluster two streets over — a practical, low-cost base for solo travelers and backpackers routing onward to Borobudur.
