About Limone sul Garda

Limone sul Garda: Lemon Groves on the Western Shore

Limone sul Garda sits on a narrow ledge of limestone cliffs along the western shore of Lake Garda, roughly 20 km north of Salò in the Brescia province of Lombardy. The town is famous for its centuries-old limonaie — terraced lemon houses built between the 17th and 19th centuries — which give the village its name and its most-photographed silhouette. The old quarter, Paese Vecchio, clusters around a small harbor where fishing boats once outnumbered tourist ferries.

Where to Stay and Getting Around

Hotels in Limone sul Garda range from lakefront four-star properties on Via Lungolago to family-run guesthouses tucked into the hillside lanes behind the harbor. The single main road, SS45bis, passes through a series of tunnels carved into the cliff face; reaching Limone by car from Riva del Garda takes about 15 minutes. A regular Navigazione Lago di Garda ferry connects the town to Malcesine on the eastern shore and to Desenzano del Garda in the south.

Practical Tips

  • Getting there: The nearest train station is Desenzano del Garda–Sirmione, approximately 50 km south; ferries and buses cover the remaining distance.
  • Cycling: The Pista Ciclabile del Garda runs along the lakeshore north toward Riva del Garda.
  • Season: Most hotels and restaurants operate April through October; winter services are limited.
  • Currency: Euro (€). Card payments accepted at most hotels.
